Marcia A. Hillary, Ph.D.

Marcia Hillary made California her home when she moved from the East Coast for graduate school, studying psychology at UC Davis. Leaving behind her public radio station in Hartford, Connecticut, she also found a new home with CapRadio.

Even though she doesn't "know a ton about music," classical music has stuck with her through the years. "I wake up, take the dog out, go to the gym, come back home…and Kevin is on! Whenever I'm in the car, KXPR is on!"

Since her early days of listening, Marcia decided that if she was going to listen, she was going to find ways to donate. About six years ago, when she was completing her living trust, she decided to include CapRadio in her estate plan. When asked why donating to public radio was important to her, Marcia explained:

"Value. Putting my money toward something that has something for me. I get back what I give. CapRadio serves the community…it brings us classical, jazz, news."

As a legacy donor, "It was more about preserving something that might go away if it's not supported—classical music could fade if it's not available to people. And I want my legacy gift to help support it." Now she is enjoying her retirement to the fullest with CapRadio at her side as she travels, plays with her goldendoodle, runs half-marathons, knits, meditates or does yoga.
